BACP Accredited Psychotherapist
Over the years I have studied many different approaches to Psychotherapy. My formal studies have included Gestalt and Mindfulness, Psychodynamic Counselling and CBT. I have read widely and attended lectures and workshops on numerous other approaches. My own approach is a distillation of all these inputs.
There is strong clinical evidence for the value of compassion in our emotional lives. I try to bring compassion and curiosity to the issues which cause my clients difficulty. Equally, I support my clients to develop greater compassion and acceptance of themselves.
Working together I help my clients explore whatever is causing them to feel stuck or unhappy. This may involve working on current problems or returning to the patterns generated in childhood which may have created a blueprint for current difficulties. Through this investigation interesting patterns are often revealed. This process will require support, empathy and at times some gentle challenging to help the client find a new way of looking at their issues and themselves.
This approach coupled with various exercises in breathing and/or Mindfulness often prove helpful. Mindfulness is an approach which also has significant clinical research enabling us to live more fully in the here and now. As we cease to ruminate or catastrophize so our emotional health can really improve.
I am very interested in how we can remain open to or block our creativity. Outside of work I am a keen jazz musician, playing saxes and flute in various ensembles. I run Open Mics and also love cycling, reading and meditating.

”What I love about my work as a psychotherapist is supporting each individual client to recognise their learnt patterns of relating to others. This leads to exploration of how these patterns may no longer be useful and in heightening this awareness, the process of personal growth and development begins."
I hold Masters’ Degrees in both Education and Psychotherapy. I initially trained as a Teacher and worked for many years supporting children with emotional and physical difficulties both in residential units and in mainstream education. I went on to train in Counselling at Cambridge University (Extra Mural Board).
I developed a counselling practice in G.P. surgeries, occupational health settings and again in private practice. I continued training at The Metanoia Institute (part of Middlesex University) where I gained a Masters Degree in Gestalt Psychotherapy. I subsequently worked as an Assistant Trainer on the Gestalt Psychotherapy Masters Degree Programme at The Metanoia Institute (Middlesex University).
During this period I co-ran many personal development groups and groups in conflict resolution. After completing my Degree I gained a qualification in the Supervision of Counselling through the Centre for Staff Training & Development.
For three years I worked for two national Employee Assistance Programme providers. During this period I co-ordinated the provision of an external counselling programme to The Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. In this capacity I worked with all levels of staff including doctors, nurses, consultants and managers.
Ten years ago I was involved in helping to establish The Dialogue Consultancy. More recently I have been involved in the provision various groups including those on Conflict Resolution, Mediation and Stress Reduction. Most recently we have started to offer groups on stress reduction using Mindfulness Meditation approaches.
Currently I teach on a Degree Programme training Counsellors. I offer supervision to individuals and groups including addiction agencies and maintain a private psychotherapy practice.
